Conferring of the first cohort of Perdana University - RCSI graduates.

RCSI Conferring Perdana University Group PhotoOn Sunday 25th September 2016, 59 students of Medicine and 2 in Medical Science became the first cohort to graduate from Perdana University- RCSI at a conferring ceremony in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia.

Speaking at the conferring ceremony, NUI Chancellor, Dr Maurice Manning said that he was very pleased to welcome the creation of Perdana University and to take part in its first graduation ceremony. He said that “the establishment of Perdana is an important development for Malaysia. The Malaysian government, like the government of Ireland and governments throughout the developed world, is committed to the optimal development of the RCSI Perdana University Conferringhuman potential of the nation through investment in education, improving the quality of education and expanding access to higher education.”

Speaking of the cohort of 61 graduands, Dr Manning said that “this year’s first conferring of medical graduates makes a small but not insignificant contribution to the achievement of those objectives.” Dr Manning commented that just over three hundred students graduated in the first graduation ceremonies of the National University of Ireland after it was founded in 1908 and of these 41 were medical graduates. He said that “in 2015, there were over 1,000 medical graduates, and across all disciplines some 40,000 qualifications from undergraduate to postgraduate level were awarded.”RCSI Perdana University Conferring

On behalf of NUI, the Chancellor extended his good wishes to Perdana University’s Pro-Chancellor Yang Berbahagia Tan Sri Datuk Dr Mohan Swami and to the University’s Board and Senate in its future development. Dr Manning also congratulated the Vice-Chancellor, Professor Dato’ Dr. Syed Ahmad Bin Hussein “for guiding Perdana through its first formative years, overseeing the establishment of the new academic programme, with its staffing and other resources, and managing the development of a brand new campus.”

The Chancellor finished by congratulating the 61 graduates of Perdana University on behalf of the National University of Ireland and wished them well embarking on their careers in medicine. RCSI Perdana University Conferring
