The NUI Chancellor, Dr Maurice Manning welcomed the announcement of the signing yesterday of an Agreement with the United Kingdom on the long-standing Common Travel Area between the two countries.
Among other provisions, the Agreement gives all citizens access to all levels of education and training in either jurisdiction and secures continuity in relation to the EU level of fees and SUSI grants for UK citizens attending Irish universities and other higher education institutions, as also SUSI grants for Irish students attending higher education institutions in the UK.
The Chancellor said ‘the commitment to continuing with the present fees and grants arrangements brings reassurance in an area of growing anxiety and uncertainty for students and clarity for universities and higher education institutions. This is very welcome news both for individuals and institutions and will enable continuing close relationships to be developed between our two higher education systems’.
