Canaries in the Mines and Much More:
Ten Reasons for Irish HEIs to Treasure Languages Now

The National University of Ireland is pleased to announce the recommencement of its lecture and seminar series. This new series of events will, in line with our recently published strategy, seek to focus on areas of educational policy.

In 2018, the National University of Ireland and UCC hosted a symposium: Ireland’s ‘Languages Connect’ strategy: A symposium on perspectives for higher education’. With two years left on the strategy’s term (2017-2026), NUI is holding a seminar that will revisit the significance of the ‘Languages Connect’ vision for the present and future of Irish Higher Education.

Professor Mary Gallagher (UCD) will deliver Canaries in the Mines and Much More: Ten Reasons for Irish HEIs to Treasure Languages Now seminar; with Dr Patrick Crowley (UCC, incoming Professor of French, University of Galway) as respondent.

The seminar will be on 29 February 2024 at the NUI office, 49 Merrion Square, Dublin 2.

The seminar will commence at 12.30 with a light lunch afterwards.
