Awards on offer 2010


The NUI is pleased to announce that the following awards will be offered in 2010:

NUI Post-Doctoral Fellowship in History 2010
This one-year Fellowship valued at €40,000, is open to NUI graduates of doctoral status. Graduates from all areas of History are eligible to apply.

NUI Post-Doctoral Fellowship in the Humanities, 2010
This one-year Fellowship , valued at €40,000, is open to NUI graduates of doctoral status. In 2010, the Fellowship will be in Literature (including Theatre and Film Studies).

Graduate Awards, 2010

(i) NUI EJ Phelan Fellowship in International Law
This one-year Fellowship, valued at €25,000, is open to NUI graduates of law or any appropriate discipline who wish to pursue research in any aspect of International Law.

(ii) TRAVELLING STUDENTSHIPS
The Travelling Studentship Scheme is designed to fund postgraduate studies at doctoral level. Each Studentship is valued at €42,000, i.e. €14,000 per annum for 3 years.

• Four Travelling Studentships in the Humanities and Social Sciences
• Two Travelling Studentships in the Sciences

The NUI Denis Phelan Scholarship
Valued at €14,000 will also be offered in connection with the Travelling Studentship competition.

(iii) DR MARY L THORNTON SCHOLARSHIP IN EDUCATION, valued at €5,000, is offered to NUI graduates in 2010.

(iv) MANSION HOUSE FUND SCHOLARSHIPS AND PRIZES in Irish and in Irish History will also be offered in 2010. A scholarship of €2,000, and a prize of €1,300 will be awarded in each category.

(v) NUI ART AND DESIGN PRIZE
This purchase prize of €2,000 will be offered in NCAD in 2010.

(vi) PIERCE MALONE SCHOLARSHIPS offered in Engineering and Philosophy (€2,000). The Engineering scholarship is offered in connection with the Travelling Studentships competition.

(vii) FRENCH GOVERNMENT MEDALS AND NUI PRIZES FOR PROFICIENCY IN FRENCH 2010
The recommendations regarding the awards are made in connection with the final degree examinations in French in each of the NUI constituent universities in Summer 2010. NUI will also award a prize of €750 to each of the recipients.

Undergraduate Awards, 2010

(i) DR H H STEWART LITERARY and MEDICAL SCHOLARSHIPS and MEDALS, 2010
This is the largest group of awards made by NUI comprising competitions in seven language subjects and in twenty medical and healthcare subjects. A Scholarship of €1,000 and medals for First, Second and Third places are awarded in each subject. In some medical subjects, medals are awarded to First and Second places only. In 2010, the Dr H H Stewart Medical Scholarships have been extended to include Midwifery, Occupational Therapy and Speech and Language Therapy.

(ii) THE NUI CLUB LONDON SCHOLARSHIP 2010 (€2,000)
This Scholarship is offered annually in accordance with regulations as decided by the Senate and up to now has been offered in a subject provided in only one constituent university. Details to follow.
