In accordance with the provisions of the Seanad Electoral (University Members) Act, 1937, the Seanad Register is revised annually, to be published on 1st June each year. The revised Register reflects all amendments received since the previous revision, and includes the names of graduates who have claimed to be registered in that period and who are otherwise eligible.
As from 2005, as provided by Section 56 of the Electoral (Amendment) Act 2001, the Registration Officer is further obliged to publish a second version of the Seanad Éireann Register, namely the Edited Seanad Éireann Electoral Register.
1. The ordinary Seanad Register will be used for statutory purposes only, including the conduct of Seanad elections.
2. The Edited Seanad Register will be used for purposes other than statutory purposes, including commercial purposes.
The cost of either Register is determined each year based on a calculation formulated by the Department of the Environment, Heritage and Local Government by Statutory Instrument Number 290, 2000.
