Artwork
MMM… Piece of candy is made up of many layers of paint, painted over and over one another from the remains of an old paint support, a canvas-like box. Once substantial enough, the layered paint was removed from its support to be mounted in resin and worked on as solid piece.
Artist
Nigel Holohan was born in Kildare in 1986. He graduated with a BA (Hons) from NCAD in 2013. His earlier work engaged material, ground and subject of made objects through ‘Process Painting’, building layers of paint into solid objects.
‘I don’t consider myself a painter, but more of a maker of paintings.’
In his studio in Wexford, Nigel’s work focuses more on the deconstruction of the painted object, disassembling and reiterating the object itself with non-traditional techniques to form a critically more engaging paint process.
