Table for Two is amongst the earliest of the series of paintings where Shane Berkery started to work from old family photos from his Japanese side. In this series, which is still an integral part of his practice, he studies the mechanisms by which the painted figure exerts a sense of ‘realness’ and presence to the viewer, all the while attempting to capture and preserve the aura of nostalgia that the old photographs possess.
