Dr Meghan Van Portfleit is a Lecturer in Management at Cork University Business School, University College Cork. Her research is on whistleblowing, and how advocacy group can positively impact the experience of whistleblowers.

“The NUI funding that I have received has allowed me to partner with others from NUI schools to host a series of seminars and a PDW that will not only further my own research, but create a network of young researchers that will push the research area forward. Protecting whistleblowers is increasingly being mandated by law, as can be seen by the EU Directive on Whistleblowing, but there is much more than legislation needed to protect those that speak up from the ostracism, blacklisting and other negative consequences that often accompany disclosures about wrongdoing. Along with NUI colleagues, we have presented webinars on how media, legal representatives, advocacy groups and other external partners impact the whistleblowing experience, setting the stage for future research in this area. Following this series, there is a PDW being hosted at NUI Galway on 30 March 2023, where a leading researcher in the field, Professor Kate Kenny, along with myself and Dr. Lauren Kierans from Maynooth University will host speakers and provide feedback on the work of early career researchers and PhD students interested in this important topic.”
