Seán Ó hUallacháin

Seán Ó hUallacháin is from Farran in County Cork. He graduated with a BA in Irish and Japanese in 2021 from University College Cork, where he subsequently completed an MA in Modern Irish, he being the first recipient of the Rick & Rebecca Riordan Scholarship for the Postgraduate Study of Irish.

His MA thesis was written under the supervision of Dr Ailbhe Ní Ghearbhuigh of the Department of Modern Irish and looked at the poetry of Seán Ó Ríordáin and its presence in Japan in the 20th Century. Seán is a writer, poet and sean-nós singer and has had his work published in Breac and The University Express.

Seán is currently teaching Irish at St Thomas University in New Brunswick, Canada on behalf of the Irish-Canada University Foundation. His research interests include Irish-Japanese relations, the Fenian Cycle of Irish mythology and the song tradition of West Muskerry.
