Dr Maurice Manning, recently elected Chancellor of NUI, presided for the first time at a conferring of NUI Degrees. The degrees were conferred on students of the Royal College of Surgeons on Thursday, 5th June in the National Concert Hall. The Chancellor recalled with a certain amount of nostalgia that this venue used to be the main University College Dublin campus where he studied and taught for many years.
