Conferring ceremonies for the Royal College of Surgeons in Ireland, a Recognised College of the National University of Ireland, were held on 17 November.
The NUI Chancellor, Dr. Maurice Manning conferred over seven hundred NUI qualifications which included a range of Bachelor, Masters and Doctoral degrees and Postgraduate Diplomas in the areas of medicine, physiotherapy, pharmacy, nursing and healthcare. Congratulating the graduates, Dr Manning commended the RCSI in particular for its outstanding success in expanding its programmes at postgraduate level, in response to increasing demands for continuing professional education. Over five hundred of those conferred received postgraduate qualifications. Dr Manning also made special mention of the first PhD graduate to emerge, following the agreement signed in 2008 by NUI, RCSI and Montpellier University relating to the joint supervision of PhD candidates, “I think this is a wonderful development. I hope that from here on we will see many more PhD graduates coming from the joint programme.”
