The Minister for Education and Skills, Jan O’Sullivan launched the Education Matters Yearbook, last night in the NUI. Speaking at the event, Dr Maurice Manning, Chancellor of the University said "At a system level, there is much that we can be proud of. The significant advances in research across a broad range of disciplines, the increasing investment by major transnational companies attracted by the high standard of our graduates, improvements in our PISA performance, are all a product of a multi-layered structure, with myriad professional inputs, that combines - highly effectively - to deliver continuously improving educational outcomes and achievements throughout our society.
"There is always work to do, however, and in today’s constantly changing world there is no room for complacency or for resting on laurels. Other countries are certainly not resting on theirs. The Education Matters Yearbook provides a comprehensive overview of the significant work currently underway in Irish education, and of the debates still to be resolved. NUI is very pleased to support Dr Hall and his colleagues in the important work they are doing to enhancing the information and ideas base for irish education and we look forward to continued national dialogue and engagement on future directions for education in this country".
