NUI Chancellor, Dr Maurice Manning, has congratulated NUI Centennial Post-Doctoral Fellow, Dr Liam Lenihan, on the publication of his work, The Writings of James Barry and the Genre of History Painting, 1775-1809. Dr Lenihan researched and composed the book during his tenure as the NUI Centennial Fellow in Irish Studies in the School of English and Department of History of Art at University College Cork.
Welcoming the publication, the Chancellor remarked that "the NUI Centennial Fellowships in Irish Studies were established to celebrate the centenary of the foundation of the University and its long-standing association with the promotion of scholarship in Irish cultural studies. Dr Lenihan's publication, which is the first full-length study of the writings of this major Irish artist, exemplifies the potential of high quality research to enhance and enrich our understanding of our cultural heritage. The Writings of James Barry ... makes a valuable contribution to scholarship in this field, adeptly negotiating the political and cultural contexts of this fascinating and tumultuous era."
