On 14th April 1966, the National University of Ireland honoured the signatories of the 1916 Proclamation by awarding honorary degrees to members of their families.
At a ceremony in Iveagh House, Dr Éamon de Valera, as Chancellor of NUI, conferred degrees on the following:
Rónán Ceannt, son of Eamonn Ceannt
Kathleen Clarke, widow of Thomas Clarke
Nora Connolly O’Brien, daughter of James Connolly
Donogh MacDonagh, son of Thomas MacDonagh
Margaret Pearse, sister of Patrick and Willie Pearse
Geraldine Plunkett Dillon, sister of Joseph Mary Plunkett.
In this centenary year of the Proclamation, NUI again remembers and honours the signatories.
