Chancellor Expresses Sympathy on Death of Professor Michael Herity
Expressing his sympathy to the family of the late Michael Herity, Emeritus Professor of Archaeology, UCD, the NUI Chancellor Dr Maurice Manning said ‘Michael Herity was one of Ireland’s most eminent archaeologists and a scholar of the first rank. In the course of a long and very active career during which he made many important discoveries, he contributed in a profound way to the understanding of Ireland’s archaeological heritage from the neolithic period to the early Christian era. He promoted the study of archaeology and encouraged young scholars. He was a distinguished President of the Royal Irish Academy. Apart from his scholarship, he was a person of great warmth who will be remembered with affection’.
