Statement on the Nottingham tragedy of June 13th 2023

The National University of Ireland is shocked and saddened to hear of the passing of Grace O’Malley Kumar, Barnaby Webber and Ian Coates.

A medical student at University of Nottingham, Ms O’Malley Kumar was at the start of the same journey that so many in her family have made in healthcare. Professor Kevin O’Malley, grandfather of Ms O’Malley Kumar, was president of RCSI Bahrain from 2004 to 2009.

Dr Sinead O’Malley, Ms O’Malley Kumar’s mother, is a consultant anaesthetist who studied at the Royal College of Surgeons in Ireland.  We send our condolences to our colleagues in RCSI and to all who have suffered the loss of Grace O’Malley Kumar, Barnaby Webber and Ian Coates.
