Awards for Publications 2011
IRISH HISTORICAL RESEARCH PRIZE
Valued at €5,000, the Irish Historical Research Prize is offered for the best work of Irish historical research, published for the first time by a graduate of the National University of Ireland, in the period since 1 April 2008. This prestigious award, which has been offered as a Prize since 1921, will be of interest to senior history scholars.
NUI PUBLICATION PRIZE IN IRISH HISTORY
This prize, of €3,000, is offered for the best work of Irish historical research published since 1 April 2008 as a first sole author book. The work, which should be substantial, must be of an original character indicating direct research in historical records.
NUI PUBLICATION PRIZE FOR MEDICAL & HEALTH SCIENCE
Valued at €3,000, this prize is open to NUI graduates in the medical and health sciences – details to be finalised.
Awards for Graduates 2011
NUI TRAVELLING STUDENTSHIPS
At least six NUI Travelling Studentships will be offered, each valued at €42,000, i.e., €14,000 per annum for 3 years.
- Four Travelling Studentships in the Humanities and Social Sciences
- Two Travelling Studentships in the Sciences
The NUI Denis Phelan Scholarship of €14,000 will also be offered in connection with the Travelling Studentship competition.
DR MARY L THORNTON NUI SCHOLARSHIP IN EDUCATION
Valued at €5,000, this prize is open to NUI graduates and is intended to encourage postgraduate research within NUI in the field of education.
MANSION HOUSE FUND SCHOLARSHIPS AND PRIZES
These awards in Irish and in Irish History will be offered in 2011. A scholarship of €2,000, and a prize of €1,300 will be awarded in each category.
NUI ART AND DESIGN PRIZE
This purchase prize of €2,000 will be offered in NCAD in 2011.
PIERCE MALONE SCHOLARSHIPS
The scholarships are awarded in Engineering and Philosophy (€2,000). The Engineering scholarship is offered in connection with the Travelling Studentships in the Sciences competition. The Philosophy scholarship is awarded in connection with the BA Honours degree examinations.
FRENCH GOVERNMENT MEDALS AND NUI PRIZES FOR PROFICIENCY IN FRENCH
The recommendations regarding the awards are made in connection with the final degree examinations in French in each of the NUI constituent universities in Summer 2011. NUI will also award a prize of €750 to each of the recipients.
Awards for Undergraduates 2011
DR H H STEWART LITERARY and MEDICAL SCHOLARSHIPS and MEDALS
This is the largest group of awards made by NUI comprising of competitions in seven language subjects and in twenty medical and healthcare subjects. A Scholarship of€1,000 and medals for First, Second and Third places are awarded in each subject. In some medical subjects, medals are awarded to First and Second places only.
THE NUI CLUB LONDON SCHOLARSHIP 2011 (€2,000)
This Scholarship is offered annually in accordance with regulations as decided by the Senate. The subject in which the scholarship will be awarded in 2011 will be announced later.
