On Thursday 16 September 2010, the President of NUI Maynooth, Dr John Hughes, Pro-Vice-Chancellor of NUI, conferred honorary doctorates on Nicholas Donofrio, former Executive Vice President of Innovation and Technology at IBM and leading international Joyce scholar and editor Professor Hans Walter Gabler at a ceremony held in the new ‘IONTAS’ building in NUI, Maynooth. After the ceremony, Minister for Tourism, Sport and Culture, Mary Hanafin TD, performed the official opening of the €15 million building which is to house including three of the University’s research institutes, the National Centre for Geocomputation (NCG), the National Institute for Regional and Spatial Analysis (NIRSA) and An Foras Feasa (The Institute for Research in Irish Historical & Cultural Traditions) in addition to the School of English, Media & Theatre Studies.
