The University has traditionally provided a number of grants-in-aid annually towards scholarly publications by staff of NUI institutions, on the basis of individual applications to the Senate. The scheme is open to full-time and part-time staff of the NUI Constituent Universities, Recognised Colleges and Colleges linked with Constituent Universities. Under the scheme, grants of up to €3,000 may be awarded, following the Senate’s consideration and approval of recommendations submitted by the NUI Publications Committee, which considers applications at its meetings in June and December.
In the last three years alone, NUI has awarded sixty individual grants amounting to over €100,000 towards the publication of books by staff members.
As is clear from the selection presented below, NUI grants-in-aid supports publications of the highest academic excellence that examine national and international topics across a variety of disciplines ranging in date from the prehistoric period to the modern age.
